Musicians use a capo when they want to match the pitch of their voice—especially when singing higher or lower than the guitar or banjo’s natural tuning. A capo is also beneficial when a song includes more than one guitar or banjo; it allows a player to change voicings and create a distinct sound from the other instruments.
